From start of Year 2017 till June, due to petroleum coke, coal tar pitch, and electrically calcined anthracite prices are increasing dramatically, which lead silicon production uses graphite electrode and carbon electrode costs are continuing upward, and smelters have forced to increase the silicon prices!
In the 1st half of Year 2017, raw materials like electrically calcined anthracite price has rised $60/MT; petroleum coke price has rised $100/MT; carbon electrode price has rised $300/MT; graphite electrode price even rised over $8850/MT!
Although it's in wet season already, the electricity costs in southern main production region, Yunnan is NOT decrease, even increased unexpectedly! Including above mentioned raw materials costs rised, the overall Chinese silicon prices are rising sharply! Majority of smelters are not willing to sell as expecting the future market pricing to rise further; and some were postponing the previous signed contract execution due to contract pricing is too low to cover the current market pricing.
In conclusion, the overall Chinese silicon prices have increased about 5% in the 1st half of Year 2017, and have also rised further 5% in July, and it's expecting to keep firm in the coming time and rise to peak in October.2017!
