Grade553 slicon metal, basis 98.5%, export price from China climbed up largely on Friday December 15, up 3.7% from the previous assessment.

The majority of refineries producing grade 553 silicon metal in China are located in the southern part of the country and have been forced to curb operations due to higher costs of electricity in the absence of hydro-electric power during the winter months.

“I estimate only 5% of the total capacity for grade 553 silicon metal in southern China is operating at the moment,” a Chinese trader said.

Since raw material keep rising, newly taxes collecting for environment-protection by government, even in dry season,
it could be foreseen that Chinese silicon metal in 2018 will be still in firm.
